The Club is looking for any member interested in becoming a Range Safety Officer.  

A Range Safety Officer is a person who ensures the safe operation of a shooting range. The Range Safety Officer designation is associated with the NRA and “[t]o become a NRA Range Safety Officer, you must pass the RSO course and demonstrate that you possess the knowledge, skills, and attitude essential to organizing, conducting, and supervising safe shooting activities and range operations.”  Classes are held locally, like an upcoming one at The Northside Sportsmans Association in Warrendale. 

Currently the Club has only two such officer and so we would like to add others to that rank. If you are interested in such and willing to take the necessary “nine-hour course [that] consists of classroom time and practical exercises conducted on a range”, please let us know. 

If you are currently an NRA member, that would be ideal, as such is required to take the course.  But if not an NRA member, please don’t let that deter you from considering this.  The Club board (and subsequently a Club membership vote) will consider paying for not only the course but possibly for the necessary NRA membership (again, if you’re not already an NRA member).

On Saturday Aug. 2nd – from 10:00AM until 2:00PM – the Richland Sportsmen’s Association will sponsor a Kids Can Fish Foundation ( kidscanfish.net ) fishing event at the Butler farm property / lake. (The Club’s recently ‘rejuvenated’ lake.)

ALL are welcome to this (FREE) event. (Obviously its a youth-oriented event.) Each registered child will receive a FREE Zebco fishing rod and a goodie bag with fishing gear! Lunch will also be provided.

Join us June 7 for a work day, followed by a campout. June 8 will be shooting and an open house at the new expansion of the farm property.

Club member Lori Zwigart has secured a CPR instructor (or instructors if demand warrants) for the Club to host a CPR class and so… All we need to do now is confirm a head-count. 
Individuals completing the class will be certified and given a certification card.  
There is a cost for this life-saving class.
$55 per person

The Club will be hosting a Hunter-Trapper Education program on Sat. May 10^th at the clubhouse.  The program will run from 8:00am to 3:00pm.  This is a six-hour training class required by law for all first-time hunters and trappers before they can buy a license.  You must pass a certification exam at the end of the class to complete the training. 

Lunch will be provided.

Day-of walk-ins will be allowed as long as pre-registration is not full.

If you’d like to help out with preparations – setting-up the clubhouse for the event – folks will be meeting the Friday evening before – probably around 4:30 to begin event setup.  Feel free to just stop on by the club at 4:30 or preferably contact Rob, Tim, Dave or John to confirm and coordinate such efforts.   (Note: Any such setup time goes towards fulfilling your service requirement time for Active Member status.)  

In October the Club submitted the winning bid at auction for a 37+ acre parcel of land adjacent to the Club’s existing property.  Once ‘the dust settles’ and some ‘housekeeping’ (some literal) is addressed, we will plan for a New Property Open House event.

PA Fish & Boat has released the 2025 trout stocking schedule. Find your favorite waterway at PFBC Adult Trout Stockings.

If you want to know whether a waterway is an “inland stream” or a “navigable waterway”, you need to look that up in the summary book: Fishing Regulations | Fish and Boat Commission | Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

The 2025 PA Fishing Summary has been released, with the following important dates:
* Mentored Youth Trout Day = March 29 (Statewide)
* Fish for Free Days = May 25 and July 4

ALL ARE WELCOME to the Club’s Annual Christmas Party on Sunday Dec. 8^th starting at 1:00PM – going until… ???   Please sign-up so we have a good idea of how many folks to plan for.  Let us know if you’ll have kids attending so Santa can plan for that accordingly. The specialty plate, available now through the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT), is adorned with artwork featuring iconic Pennsylvania hunting, fishing, and boating imagery including the white-tailed deer, ruffed grouse, and anglers fishing from a kayak on a scenic river. The license plate costs $40 plus the registration fee, of which $14 will be deposited into a Youth Hunting and Fishing Restricted Account to be allocated evenly to the PGC and PFBC for the purpose of promoting youth hunting and fishing activities.
